Birth videos..what are your favorites?
Hi all!
I'm planning on putting together a childbirth informational night for my community sometime in the spring and would love to show a birth video.
I would love to hear of everyone's favorite birth films, especially ones that show doulas. There was a film we watched at my ALACE doula training 6 years ago and I think it was called Special Women with Polly Perez??? Anyway, it was a great film and showed a young woman using labor assistance during her birth.
So, what do you recommend to clients?
Thanks!
Amy

The 3 R's with Penny Simkin is a fav of mine. I show it to all of my doula clients to prepare them (mostly the dads and first time moms) and show them what a normal laboring mom looks like and acts like. Penny is actively involved involved in the births as well so it shows how a doula can help in the process. I'm not sure if you'd want to show this at a childbirth info night, though. I think you should view it first. Either way, it's a great video to have on hand!

I second the Special Women and the Three Rs videos. Those are the only two that I have right now, and I'm not familiar enough with any others to recommend them. I've gotten great responses about them from both moms and dads whenever I've shown them.
I agree about what was already posted about the Three Rs video. It's kind of intense, especially for first-time viewers. I, too, would opt to show that one to those who are already clients/students instead of at an info night. I usually show the Special Women one at my first prenatal and the Three Rs at my second prenatal. Dads have told me that Three Rs was most helpful in getting them prepared for what to expect from their wife while in natural labor. I do HIGHLY recommend it for doula clients and CBE students!!!
Both videos have graphic birth shots, just in case you need to plan the most appropriate viewing place/audience.

I love Birth into Being!!!! To see all of those mamas laboring and birthing their babies naturally and in water - well, it is such a beautiful video. I also like the 3 R's and Delivery: Self Attachment.

Birth Day is one of my favorites... I'm really liking Birth As We Know It too... similar to Birth Into Being

I really like Gentle Birth Choices. And the best part it was free with the book!
I find it a little preachy for clients, although if I watch it a few more times, I may be able to skip ahead when watching it with clients (if that even made sense).
I also love the Self-Attachment video. It is 6mins and you can watch a newborn "climb up" his mother to attach himslf to the breast.

Born in Water - A Sacred Journey is the fav of what I have seen (not too many.) I love all the waterbirths and how one mom catches her own baby in the tub with hubby behind her, just like I did.

I also love Birth Day. It is a great one to show the older siblings to prepare them.
The self attachment video is amazing too.

Candice - I hope you don't mind me posting a link to that video. Anyone can purchase it. It's really good for any clients considering homebirth but not sure.
Homebirth Rites
I have Born in the USA myself. That's the only birth video I own.
