Start..stop...start...stop

THis is how things are going for my current client. Almost everyday for the past 2 weeks she's been having a good amount of contractions, they get regular and then they poop out. She's due on Monday and already has an induction scheduled for Tuesday because "the baby is getting really big".
I really thought yesterday was going to be the day because she woke up with diarrhea and felt "different". Contractions went on from the morning until right after dinner time. SHe's very disappointed. This is her 3rd baby and she's never been pregnant this long.
Please send some labor vibes her way!!

My third was the same way! My boys were both two weeks early! Within a day of each other, my oldest was 39 weeks exactly, and then Grant was 38 weeks and 6 days! But my Madolyn was due the day after my EDD! Sure did surprice me a bit. My midwife and I had talked about coming in that Friday to possibly induce (which I was kicking a screaming about) but my daughter came on Wednesday, two days before! She was such a good girl!

What I have read, experienced and heard about situations like this, is that this is totally normal for labor to start and stop like this with the third babies, and be prepared for a quick birth once things do get going! I walked into the hospital at 8 cm with a bulgy bag of water, and still felt fine! I have had a few clients that did this too! So good luck, and hopefully we will be reading that she had her baby in the next few days! Just tell her to relax, because worry can slow things down, aka emotional dystotia

This happened to me with my third.. I had contractions off and on for over a week before I was induced.. I would think its the real thing too! They camee very 5 mins for an hour, then stopped, 4 hours later started back comming every 10 mins, then stopped.. Drove me insane!! Anyways, I feel her pain! I hope she goes into labor soon before the induction!!! How far along is she?

Not to hijack the thread, but after hearing all of this about 3rd babies, and I'm on my 3rd right now.. I'm getting concerned! My second was such a breeze--really! I guess I can just be prepared by expecting this.

Labor vibes to your client!!!

Tiff....

If it's any consolation, I'm baby #3 and was born 3 weeks before EDD....mom's water broke, ctx's started on the way to the hospital, and I was born 10 hours later. It could happen!

I did this with my third. Actually with all of them I'd have on and off contractions for weeks leading up to birth. The obstetrical model of care called them Braxton-Hicks, but the midwifery model of care recognizes that this pre labor pattern actually does ripen the cervix.

With Linzey I would labor at night, then as soon as my other kids would wake for the day I'd stop. Kelsey was 5 and Charlie was 3 1/2 at the time of her birth. When I finally decided to do it I went fast! Her birth story is under birth stories in AllDoula's forum under that title.

With the twins I stopped labor at around 28 weeks by telling them firmly to "knock this shit off!" I said, "I REFUSE to have you at this hospital and have to leave you in NICU so knock this shit off!" My contractions were a regular 5 minutes apart, after I made this statement they stopped abrubtly then I didn't have pre-term labor symptoms for 4 more weeks. It's amazing how our mind affects our body.

I always encourage mom's that are laboring in this way. You're getting a lot of work done while attending to your family. When you feel safe and rested you'll have your baby.

Just my

I really am going to do the twins birth story today. I'm just trying to catch up on the boards Ok I'm putting it off. Their story will be long

She's at an appointment right now and I'm waiting for her to call me to let me know whats going on. Today she has been having some painful contractions and she's feeling lots of pressure with them. She's totally in denial that it's anything since she's been having contractions for so long. I can understand where she's coming from. Hoping this is it for her and today is her due date! If she has the baby today she will be my 4th client to have her baby on her due date.

My client is at the hospital right now. At the appointment they discovered she's leaking amniotic fluid and she's GBS + so they sent her to the hospital for antibiotics and see if things progress. She's waiting for a room and will call me in a bit to tell me to come. Hopefully she won't need pit but I'm thinking she's probably gonna get it.
Keep her in your thoughts.

Good luck! Many times prodromal labor occurs because baby is not in optimal position. It's your bodys way of trying to get them rearranged. Check for an OP baby (sunny side up) and have her do a lot of hands and knees. Do you have any experience in belly mapping? This is a good way to see where baby is.
