Question de-coder dictionary thingy

hey, and sometimes i have trouble de-coding some of the lingo. i have never been to a chatroom or an online forum before, so please excuse my ignorance. i am sure that i can figure most of it out, but i was thinking it would be nice to have a doula glossary, and a computer lingo translation guide somewhere on alldoulas.

sometimes i think i am figuring it out. like, dh is "darling husband"? but honestly, i don't know. i am sure there are others like me.

also, some of the doula abbreviations confuse me. it would be nice to have some kind of guidance. i know i just need to do more reading and get more experience. however dictionaries are wonderful things.

anyone else think it would be a good thing to have a glossary of terms?
or anyone just want to clue me in on the most common codes?
anyone else feel clueless sometimes?

thanks, radhe.

Let's see if I can help...if you have any specifics, let me know!

DH-dear hubby
DP-dear partner
DD-dear daughter
DS-dear son
DC-dear child
MIL, SIL, FIL (mother, sister/son, father in law)

Shoot...now I can't think of anything...any of the harder more obscure ones. Lol

OH!!! AND WHAT'S UP DOULA SISTER! I'm moving to Gainesville in December!!! I've been looking to make contacts in the area and here you are!

I'm learning as I go. I think an online acronym sticky would be nice. Maybe one for medical stuff too, just so we know what the nurses are charting.

We have a page for Childbirth Acronyms and Medical Terminology. Look on the pink sidebar and you'll see "Articles of Interest", they are under there. Here are direct links:

Acronyms (including Doula initials): http://www.alldoulas.com/forums/view.php?pg=acronyms

I'm kind of drawing a blank, myself, but here are a few:
kwim- know what I mean
btw- by the way
tia/TIA- Thanks in advance
HTHs- Hope that helps
lol- laughing out loud
LOL-laughing out loud (louder than the one above!)
ROFL-Rolling on floor laughing
LMAO-Laughing my @$$ off
siggy-signature
addy-address
...There's more, but I can't think of them right now. I stuck to general chat/message board lingo as most of the doula/birth lingo & acronyms are found in the sites that Tiff linked. HTHs!

hi cathy and lori,

thanks for those. i definately learned a few there! i was wondering what FIL was. in the context that i had been reading it, i thought it was some kind of accountant!

cathy, pleased to 'meet' you. moving to g'ville? i'm sure we will meet (for real). i am looking forward to connecting with doulas in the area too. i know quite a few midwives, yet only one other doula (she is a post-partum ayurdoula- which is way cool! just not my thing yet.)

thanks, radhe.
