Question for the Henna Goddess!

You wonderful ladies have sparked my interest in henna! I have a 16 yr old that would love to make it a mommy and me learning curve! I have no idea where to start! Im a "information gatherer" by nature, i want to know everything about henna its uses, historical and origin values! how to mix, use buy everything long before i even take a stab at it! I was wondering how you ladies got your start? Who turned you on to it?
Can you suggest a few books for us to read?
Perhaps a 101 website? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated!

The Henna Page is what you want. It is an educational resource devoted to the history, traditions, techniques, science and art of Henna, and is part of a site group devoted to Henna and related arts. http://www.hennapage.com

What a great project for the two of you. There is a lot of information that can be had. Don't let it overwhelm you but I do suggest learning some of the chemistry and safety issues of henna at least.

When you are ready to buy some, I also recommend buying from a certified dealer instead of your local health food store. The freshness of henna makes a difference in quality of stain.

Definitely check out the hennapage site. It really has a wealth of info, and the henna dealers are the safest to buy from. I know more about the chemistry of henna than I thought was possible!
