i love earth henna, they have a very rich organic henna product, but if you are looking for starter and learning i suggest henna king. they have a less expensive product and even pre filled paper cones which is what i learn on. also just for starters sake you can go down to your local craft store and get a can of Wilson cake icing and the paper cones for cake decorating and practice with that for a while. i was a wedding cake decorator once upon a life and going from the hand and piping motions for icing to henna was a breeze.

Any of the suppliers listed at The Henna Page would be fine. They are listed towards the top of the page. I mostly order from Catherine herself at Tap Dancing Lizard.
Do you want to learn to mix your own or do you want to start off with some premixed paste?

I don't care for Henna King. For one, I just get a bad vibe from looking at their site. Yes, I know, irrational. But for a more concrete reason, they sell "colored henna tattoos". Henna comes in one color with shades that vary between orange to brown. The colors are not henna and should not be called henna. Also, henna is not tattoos. Once again, I know, picky picky. For people in the henna business, it gets very annoying hearing "is that real?" meaning a real tattoo. No, it is not a tattoo, either real or fake. It IS real henna body art though.

Oh they also say:
Quote:
Our Best Selling Singh Brand Henna Cones.
100% Natural
This is GREAT Indian pre-made Henna is in a traditional style application cone... Singh Henna produces a dark brown to dark red stain every time and we receive new shipments weekly so you are assured of the freshness. Very easy to use just cut the tip off the cone and you are ready to go, each cone contains 33 grams of premixed Henna paste, enough for 30 tattoos. There is a plastic cap to cover the tip when it's not in use or just squeeze them into a jacquard bottle, this will ensure it's freshness. These cones will last for 3-4 months on the shelf or up to 6 months when kept in the refrigerator
or freeze them for years of freshness.

They don't give an ingredient list anywhere on the site. I wont buy anything premixed with out one. They say their premixed cones will last 3-4 months on the shelf. That makes me wonder what they have in there. Henna will start to demise soon after dye release which normally occurs between 12 and 24 hours. So if you leave out premixed henna, it starts going downhill after about 24 hours. That's why we keep it in the freezer. Sorry Lisa, I don't mean to knock your favorite place. I just want everyone to be aware of some of the discrepancies I see.
Also, please do not henna any children under 6.

Thanks, I will be looking into those websites tonight!
I would definetly love to learn how to mix it myself and make the cone "thingy" (jeje, LOL). Is it really hard to get it the right consistency, etc?
Lisa, thanks for your suggestions I am a cake decorator too so I am sure I will do alright!

Oh my, Georgane!!! mehandi.com has all kind of stuff, where to start, should I buy that "kit"? How much (grams) should I buy to make a couple of "bellies", if I get them separately?
HennaPages.com is awesome, it has so much info, thanks!

I always buy Catherine's Personal Stash of Summer 2006 Yemeni. 100 grams will last you a LONG time. You can buy the kit but if you want to buy things seperatly there is a good video from the henna page that shows you how to roll your own cones. I would do that. If you get a couple of the "free" samples of carrot bags, I use those to store my mixed henna in but not for hennaing. Of course, I also just use ziploc bags. They have seams so that makes them not have perfectly formed circular outlets. It makes your lines more flat. Also, if you learn to roll cones well, you can roll several different sized tips. Cutting your tips off to open them, also flattens out the opening. Anyways, if you want to mix your own, I'd be happy to help.
Jamilia is also good.

One more thing, Catherine will send you a CD and information by mail if you so desire. She's very nice.
