Question for you ladies with piercings
I had the cartilidge of my left ear pierced over 3 years ago and it still hurts! Not all the time, but if I sleep on that side, the next morning its so sore! It also developed a small knot about 6 months after I had it done. Is this common? I don't want to have to let it grow up, because it was a sister thing - my sister and I had it done at the same time. But, I don't know how much longer I can deal with it. Geez, I sound whiney!

Sounds like a bad case of scar tissue. I'm not sure what you can do about it. Have you tried neosporin or salt water? I would recommend taking it out a few days but it would hurt like hell to have to repierce. Yikes!

I had the cartilage at the top of my ear pierced twice and both times the skin started growing over the piercing and it always bothered me.

Sorry this is offtopic...
I was thinking of getting my ears pierced soon. I really wanna wear earrings, but I was too chicken before. How much does it hurt? And what medications can you use to numb it?

I think the ears are the least painful of any piercing I have gotten before. I don't think you need to use anything to numb it. I guess you could put some Bactine on it afterwards if it bothers you.

Yes, I am thinking it is common!! I had my cartlidge (sp) pierced *thinking* 11 years ago and it still gets sore and I still can feel a knot where it used to be!!
As far as getting it pierced, it didnt hurt at all!! It's just a PITA when trying to brush your hair and it gets in there or talking on the phone!

I had mine pierced about 4 years ago and it still hurt when I laid on it or pulled on it...UNTIL I changed the jewelry from a stud to a hoop. I don't know if it was just a coincidence or what, but now it doesn't hurt a bit!

Don't you think it can be the earrings you wear? b/c If I wear cheap earrings all day long it will get sore and red and hurt me all day.. and sometimes I've notice that If I sleep wrong like on my ear it will hurt.. just me thinking.. (I don't have more than one piercing)

I've had my navel, labret, eyebrow and ears pierced - the cartilage was the most painful peircing and the longest to heal.... I gave up after 6months and took it out. Was waaay too painful to sleep on.

I had mine done about 15 years ago... the cartilidge. It took along time to heal. I put a stud in it, and i never take it out now, its just to hard to change, and i find the hole will still grow closed in a matter of days, then its really hard to get it back in.
But now i forget its even there.

I had my cartilidge pierced two seperate times and both hurt like hell! The first one was pierced at an angle and after 6 mos it still hurt really bad so I took it out. Then I had it re-done thinking if it wasn't at an agle it wouldn't hurt as much - WRONG. After a year and 3 different earrings I took that one out too. I can still feel the bump where it used to be pierced.
And piercing it HURT!

Sileree: Getting your 'regular' part of your ears pierced doesn't really hurt at all. I have 5 on one ear and 3 on the other (on the lobe, not cartilage) and the only pain I felt was right after it gets really hot and itchy but after that wasn't bothersome at all. Most of them were done with a gun and one was done with a needle and ice. I prefer the gun cause it's much quicker. Although, don't do it yourself...my friend and Itried that and I bled...alot! Lol

It's not that bad. I wouldn't even numb them. It hurts for about a half of a second. It's SO quick. Go for it!
