Herbal Teas...

So I have my last CBE class (for CD(DONA) certification) tonight and wanted to take some of my goody bags for the ladies. Included in these bags are some Traditional Medicinals Red Raspberry and Mother's Milk tea bags. I love Trad Med teas and know so many moms who swear by both products.

Here's the question...the CBE teacher adamantly told everyone to STAY AWAY from anything herbal AT ALL during pregnancy, labor and while BF. I can understand her to a point but these teas are harmless...and there's only one bag of each so it's not like they could drink a gallon of red rasp and risk premature labor. Lol Do you think I should take the tea out of the bags before I hand them out? I don't want to contradict what she told the class and I don't want ppl to think I'm trying to kill them with my funny tea. But personally I see no problem with it. Lol

That is a tough one. If I were in the position I think I wouldn't hand out the teas. For only one reason...you may be able to come to future classes to promote your business and you don't want to do anything the teacher might disagree with. If you feel like you have enough of a connection that this instructor may be a resource for the future I say no.

Just my 2 cents....

Cathy, I'm with Christy. However if you get any clients out of it I tell them not to take herbals without consulting a knowledgable care provider, insinuating there are some and they may not be a physician. I also remind women to tell their primary pregnancy caregiver of anything they are taking, herbal or no. Herbs can interact with drugs and anesthesia, and unfortuantely many hospital based practitioners don't have any knowledge of the benefits/interactions and feel it's just safer to avoid them altogether.

To answer your question, I'd stick to chocolate kisses or rice socks.

Guess you won't be extolling the benefits of 5W in this class? ;-))

I agree with Christy too!!! It is always better to try to get as many friends on your side as you can especially when you are starting out.
