primrose gel caps, and 5W

Does anyone have any experience with clients using Primrose gel caps, 3x daily, 2x orally, once vaginal. A client asked me to "check it out." Also, does anyone know anything about 5W by Nature Sunshine?

Thanks,Laurie

One thing to be aware of with Evening of Primrose oil is most of the capsules have a vitamin E base. Vitmain E has been shown in studies to increase the risk of premature rupture of membranes.

This could be helpful if mom is favourable, however it does increase the risk of infection and turns the hour glass timer for delivery.

My DD had a baby a couple of months ago and her midwife had her start taking EPO about 2 weeks before her due date to help her cervix to start ripening.

There is one study that shows that EPO taken orally can lead to longer labors, more interventions etc. I'll track it down if someone doesn't beat me to it.

Inserted vaginally it doesn't seem to produce those complications, so I never encourage women to take it orally.

Do you know if the midwife had your daughter take the EPO orally or vaginally? Thank you, Laurie

She had her take it orally. She did mention to her that she could use it vaginally as well but did not reccomend that to her until a few days before her due date. My DD had a really smooth and easy and short labor.
