primrose how to vaginal

hi ladies

so the question. some say epo vaginal some say orally;
if someone was to decide vaginal how do they use it
every day , night? one two?
Do you insert the gelcap on the cervix or can you use
liquid pmo on a tampon or something?
how many of you had fast effects with this for induction?
thank you

lidia

I love the Gentle Birth Archives for this type of information - this should get you to the page with EPO induction methods.

The MW I work with will have a client insert a couple gelcaps before bedtime for a series of days. They dissolve. EPO is mainly used to soften and efface a cervix, not to actually induce contractions, though if you are on the verge anyway, I guess it could happen. I know many midwives have their clients start taking EPO at 36 weeks.

If the person is planning a hospital birth,make sure she gets those gelcaps out before she has an exam there!

I did two before bed every night starting at 37 wks. And Linsey is right, it does not induce, just help rippen the cervix. I just inserted the gels right up there and went to bed. Hope that helps you.

It's more effective to pop the gel caps so that you have just the oil, and use, of course, a needless syringe to squirt the epo against the cervix.

My midwife popped a few capsules on her gloved fingers and then applied it to my cervix. She only did this once. She also had me popping a couple capsules and day and rubbing them on my belly, mostly for emollient properties but the skin absorbs it also. I never took any orally.
ETA: I was term when we did this, and since I was under an OB's care also, felt like I was "on the clock" already due to the extra proceedures he wanted: non-stress test, possibly more ultrasounds, etc... I did not want an induction so we tried to do some things to just encourage my body along.

I took it orally and also inserted one or two before bedtime around 39 weeks. Be sure to wear a pad because when you stand up it leaks back out! I can't say if it helped ripen my cervix or not, because I was so close to the end. I *think* it helped. I also popped open capsules and used them for lubrication during sex - TMI, I know. But all of that together worked
