Homeopathic remedies are safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Most whole foods stores sell them but it is best to consult with a naturopath before picking a remedy. But homeopathic remedies don't work too well if you drink a lot of coffee or other caffeinated drinks.

I gargle with Grapefruit Seed Extract, you can get it in liquid form (good to add to nasal sprays too) and add the recommended amount of drops to some water to gargle, I also take the capsules a few times a day until the sore throat doesn't come back Hope you feel better soon.

Gargeling with warm salt water makes it feel so much better. Also, you CAN take Tylenol when b/f.

If you take a homeopathic remedy, don't use mint, it reverses the effects. Also DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) is really good for sore throats, ear infection, sinus infection, and many other different uses. But you have to dilute it a LOT or it burns a bit. You can read about DMSO at http://www.dmso.org. It put a complete halt to recurrent ear infections for a friend of mine, her son had an ear infection that kept resurfacing for over a year. When she started putting DMSO drops in his ear, he NEVER had another infection. Anyway, just thought I'd add that.

Forgive me if this sounds impersonal, but I wonder if that would work on dogs? I have a Springer Spaniel that has Chronic (almost constant) ear infections. It just drives her (and me!) crazy! I have spent a fortune on vet bills on her stinky, painful ears, and it still always returns as soon as we finish antibiotics and special ear cleansers.

Lori it really does work on dogs, I've used it topically on Clem several times for various wounds and gum problems. Make sure you dilute it like 6 or 10 to 1 it burns like the dickens.

I am with LeAnne -- I swear by Grapefruit Seed Extract -- it is an all natural antibiotic basically. Last winter when strep was running rampant I got a sore throat one day that was really bad. I immediately started putting the GSE in some juice three times a day and within three days it was gone!! I love the stuff!!

Slippery Elm Lozenges are great for sore throat too...I'm pretty sure they're ok if you're BF but I would double check to be sure. (It won't kill the germs but is a nice, soothing alternative to your regular cough drops).
