Low Iron levels..

What herbs can I take to help with this? I take my daily prenatal but when my iron was checked it's still real low.. I try to eat green leafy veggies, etc but I can only eat so much. LOL

Have you read The Cesarean by Michel Odent? HE comments about iron levels and what do they really mean. I don´t ave the book in front of me by he mentions something about the fact that giving women high doses of iron inhibit the absorbtion of other substances which are more important.

nettles
yellow dock
alfalfa
dandelion

A midwife I had once made a tincture with all of those in an apple cider vinegar base for me when DS2's iron was dangerously low. It worked well for us.

Hi,
You probably already know this but just in case...

Be sure to eat vitamin C rich foods when eating iron rich foods as the Vit C. helps iron absorption. Stay away from tea, coffee and other caffeinated foods as they limit iron absorption. Another iron rich food that is easier to stomach than all those leafy greens (which I love, but really how much can you eat in one day) are pumpkin seeds. I grind them up and add them to our yogurt, cereal, smoothies etc.

Hope that helps.

Just thought I'd mention...although you have probably seen it...watch out for the e.coli breakout at the moment. I know it has been found in packaged spinach in Oregon, and a few other states. I would hate for you to get it while trying to eat healthily!!

Dairy can inhibit iron. Try drinking chlorafresh and eating raisins and other dried fruit. Yellow dock is great. If you really need a boost,Solgar gentle iron is great and wont cause cramps.
