Dandelion?

I have in my notes that i got from some midwives that you can use dandelion tea to help with swelling. I had a client use it during the summer under their instructions, but i'm looking for some good info to give a client about it.

I only have "anecdotal" evidence about dandelion. I was instructed by my mw to use dandelion root tincture due to PUPPS during my second pregnancy. I think I drank a bit of water with three "squirts" put in. It was amazing how quickly the PUPPS cleared. Less than a week certainly. It would make sense that it be used for swelling. Good luck finding more info!

Yup, in the MW practice I apprenticed under we often had women take dandelion root to reduce swelling and it worked. You should be able to find quite a bit of info on it by googling "Dandelion Root Pregnancy Swelling"

Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of pregnancy

Basically, a maddening rash on the abdomen that can migrate! Not fun!

Most sites say there isn't any evidence one way or the other, but some say its probably Ok, since its been used to increase milk supply among other things.

Question Brewer's Diet

Is this late 3rd trimester swelling or before? If before 37 weeks, what about Dr. Brewer's diet of drinking lots of water, 120 g of protein per day and salt to taste? Check out http://www.blueribbonbaby.org

Late 3rd trimester swelling can be considered normal, just the body's way of saying "I am done with this." Late 3rd trimester moms with swelling should still incorporate Dr. Brewer's diet and rest with thier feet up more often. I tell my clients to listen to what their body and their baby is telling them.
