Unhappy Longest cold ever

I have had a bad cold for a full 2 weeks now. It started on the 10th in my upper head (sinus, stuffiness, sneezing) for a week and then moved down to my throat and now my chest. If this keeps up, I will have a cold in my toes by mid-January.

I went to my GP who did a throat swab that came back negative. DD had the same thing but she is better, DH is a week behind us in the sxs. Being pregnanct really limits my cures. I am very pro-natural remedies for most things, but when it comes to colds, I have no patience and prefer to drown my sxs in NyQuil.

I have tried oscillo, Airborne, Emergen-C, zinc tablets and during a 24 hour birth I took a bit of Sudafed (the MW at the birth said it was safe). I have one of those steam thingies and stick my face in there 2-3 times a day and that helps but at this point I just want it all to be over!

I appreciate any suggestions and am really willing to try anything....

eat raw garlic!
I had a cold coming on a month or so ago, right before a friend's baby shower. I SO badly wanted to go to it, but I was feeling all nasty and wasn't going to be able to in my present state. So, I took the advice of a freind and I ate a clove of raw garlic.
I'm sure your hubby wont like your smell so eat some gingersnaps after the garlic.
What I did was put it on a peice of toast with honeybutter. It was still gross but was more edible.
It WORKS!

other than lots of tea and lots of water and lots of sleep.
I do find drinking about 8 oz of tea or water every 1/2 to 1 hr seems to make a huge difference. It seems to really thin out the congestion and get it moving out.

Elder flower and berry (products- Honey Gardens Apiaries has an Elder syrup, Sambucol) are good for kicking out colds and flu. Next time take some as soon as you feel any symptoms.
Yarrow is good- tea or tincture.
You may need something to help the lymph system get moving- calendula works nicely- tea or tincture.
Hot baths with essential oils might help too.
The steams you are doing are good. Thyme is very antimicrobial.
Cut out sugars and refined carbs. They depress the immune system.
Lots of rest.
Hope this is helpful.

Lightbulb Know the feeling!

I think that I have had this same cold, but it has just presented in a different order. Mine started in the throat, then moved up into my head for about a week. I had ONE day of thinking I was getting better, then it moved down into my chest the next day and has stayed for the next few weeks. I am on week 4! This thing is absolutely draining; I've been ill for the whole month of February. This same cold (the cold that just won't end) has been going around my area.

I can feel that I'm finally getting better, but I still have a little tickle in my chest. I hope that yours goes away sooner than mine.

ETA: I just realized that this is an old thread! I just replied when I saw that Happy Heartsong did! I REALLY DO hope that you're all better now, Cecilia!
