Happy 3rd Birthday AllDoulas
Three years ago today was the day AllDoulas was officially born. We've been through a lot of changes together; we've seen people come and go, we've made friends, shared birth stories, helped each other with the business end of being a doula, and have virtually held hands while debriefing our challenges and tragedies. Though it may seem small compared to other large forums out there, I am very pleased with the growth of our community, and so glad to see doulas from all over coming together.
The diversity and closeness of our members has given us many things to discuss, sometimes empowering you and sometimes enraging you. Our staff has worked hard over the last three years treating each issue that arises individually, and we have always tried to do what is best for the community as a whole. Our differing opinions help make this place interesting to come back to, yet there is a special kindness here that lets you know there is support when you are looking for it.
I want to thank all of our members and staff over the last couple years, even those who have had their differences or left, because each experience teaches us something. I want you to know the doula spirit is here and will always be, and when things change or get difficult, we must not forget what we're about: The woman who finds out what a doula is for the first time, spends all night researching it, finds our site and joins us as an eager aspiring doula; The doula who has taken a training and is awaiting "the call" of their first client in labour; And the doula who has been supporting women for years and is kind enough to share her experiences and wisdom with us continually. This is what AllDoulas is about, and I hope that is never forgotten.
