Visited the Campus of University of Western Ontario This Weekend

This University is amazing--they are SO high tech and #1 in a ton of things. They had a brand new clinical lab that looked exactly like a hospital floor. They had mannequins that similated tons of medical conditions. Even one was a birthing mother! It was SO cool! They loaded the baby in, turned her on and she went through a whole birth, even with placenta. I was intrigued to say the least!

I learned the mannequin can also simulate posterior birth, breech presentation, and shoulder dystocia. She can receive IM injections and an IV can be started on one of her arms. There was an afterbirth and everything. We watched a demonstration of two student nurses catching the baby and delivering placenta. It was REALLY neat! They told me there was a lot more to her, but that she was brand new so they didn't know all the details yet.

I just wanted to share because I thought that was very interesting technology. Maybe I will call the school and see if they'll let me come in and take pics and talk more about how she works and benefits the nursing students.
