Have you heard of this? What causes it?

Has anyone here heard of a mom whose "babies go out over the pubic bone"? I have a friend who attempted homebirths with her first two babies...with a homebirth DOCTOR in her area. (Wow) She ended up with c-sections with both ~ and then 2 more c-sections after them, without attempting homebirth ~ and the doctor told her that there is no way to get her babies to come back under the pubic bone and out the correct way.

What would cause this? Is it a malformation of the pelvis?

Are you absolutely sure that they come out over top of the pubic bone? I've never heard of anything like that before. That is really bizarre; I don't see how that is possible unless someone can convince me otherwise.

I agree with Lori - doesn't make sense to me. That would mean her pubic bone would have to be behind her uterus and cervix. Unless I am envisioning this totally wrong.

It is entirely possible for this to happen - although not until a woman has a few babies or perhaps is she's overweight and/or has a heavy baby (for her). When the baby is entering the pelvis and is of a size that sports some weight - usually around 30+ weeks gestation - if the abdominal muscles are kinda loose they'll let the uterus and baby fall kinda forward of the pelvis and pubic bone. Which means that the babe will then have a really, really hard time finding his way down and out.
Sometimes a rebozo works. Hammock the lower abd and uterus and pull up and back - this is for labor. During pregnancy these moms should use one of those elastic pregnancy belts that goes under the belly to help facilitate better positioning. Moms sort of intuitively do this with their arms in pregnancy and labor but it's not enough support esp in labor when her mind may be more on coping with contractions than with holding her belly up!

Isn't that called a pendulous abdomen? I've heard of it, I think on spinning babies.
