Labor false starts with multips

Ok, admittedly, this is a totally self-serving question, BUT it could be educational for us newer doulas who haven't had 2nd (or 3rd...) time moms as clients yet.

What do you know about multips going into labor- is it common that they go into labor in fits and starts? And if so, over what period of time usually? Or is there no 'usually'?

My first birth was precipitous. I don't live very near a hospital (and even farther from a midwife!), so I'm trying to 'plan' my birth logistics for this July. I'm hoping that labor takes a bit longer this time, but since we won't know, I wonder how many times I'll be rushing off to the hospital because I've had contractions for 10 mintues and therefore might blow at any moment.

Thanks!

Nicole

Good luck with the planning

One of my last clients was having her 4th baby and we actually ended up in the hospital with a day of "false" labour (we were sent home). She went into active labour two days later. She was also quite a ways away from her hospital of choice so was also a little nervous about getting there on "time".
