Another Breech question

OK, so I have just had a call from my second client telling me that baby has turned breech in the last couple of days. She is currently 36 weeks.

I have read back through old threads and given her all the ideas for turning baby naturally, and she is doing lots of her own research on the net.
This is her second child and her first ended up in c/s. Her OB has told her that he will not do a version due to the uterine scarring from the previous c/s.

So has anyone had any experience in breech babies after a previous c/s? Can they have a vaginal breech birth? (Although not sure many Docs here would even let her try) I am hoping that bub will just turn on his/her own and she can progress with the lovely VBAC that we have planned!

my doctors said absolutly not to delivering breech, but i am high risk. the resident said it has been done but they do not like to do them. I have heard of mothers burning a incense at there feet on their baby toes and it is supposed to help encourage the baby to flip. http://herbies-herbs.com/pages/moxa_roll.html

that is the website if you want to do some more research on it. i have never done it but my sister who is a nurse says it has a high success rate.

good luck

Gentlebirth.org has great ideas on turning a breech baby.

And this is an exchange between my bestfriend and me whenever someone says "My doctor won't LET me/doesn't do _____."

Her: Hey Catie, how many doctors allow women do have a vaginal breech birth in Columbus?

Me: None.

Her: Huh. Hey Catie?

Me: Yes?

Her: How was Lydia born?

Me: She was a vaginal breech birth.

Her: At home?

Me: No, at one of the hospitals here in town.

Her: Does your doctor allow vaginal breech birth?

Me: Nope.

So, the point of this is to say, they might strongly PREFER that she not have a vaginal breech, but if she feels comfortalbe and chooses that, then that is what she can do. She has to consent to the cesarean birth in most cases. And, a cesarean for a breech baby is still considered an "elective" cesarean.

So this may not wind up being what most folks want to read about this subject however....
Not all women who birth by Cesarean were coaxed into it against their will. I don't know your client's story but having been a birth center nurse and doula for 10 years I've got a pretty wide perspective. Besides, I too, am a VBAC of a breech...at least the attempt. Anyway, if your client has birthed once by Cesarean and now at 36 weeks her baby has turned there may just be something about her pelvis shape that has a had time with cephalic births. And remember, with a breech birth the head is the last to birth and the most intrinsic part of the babies body and breech delivery can be difficult because there's no baby body left to help push the head out. Which is to say that she might or might not do really well with a vaginal delivery. And there's no reason not to birth breech after a Cesarean - it doesn't create anything different relative to the scarring. If it were me, I would be discussing the things that help to vert a baby and trying them but I'd also be approaching the subject of another Cesarean birth. I know very well that this is not easy for some people but I think women who aren't dealt with truthfully BEFORE plan B happens to them A) they suffer more trauma and are further victimized by their births and B) might not have learned her own coping skills for dealing with situations like embracing a plan B.
Incidentally, moxibustion works well....so does chiropractic and swimming in deep water and doing a gentle dive underwater. Not a dive off the side but a tread water and just slip under. Visualize how that would help turn the heavy end of a baby - the head!

Anyone had a doc say they won't try a version on a VBAC mom b/c it might rupture scar tissue? Thought that was interesting when I heard it.

Michelle, I had a run of breech babes early in my career. It can be frustrating to want to help and there is really only so much you can do. and try not to get discouraged for this momma. Everything happens for a reason. Whether the babe turns or not.
