New (and lonely) in Texas Panhandle
I'm a new doula and brand new to Alldoulas.com. I have attended DONA International training for birth and postpartum doulas and I hope to certify in both areas. I'm a mother of two boys (ages 5 and 2), whom I am co-parenting with my ex-husband, who thankfully lives nearby and is moderately supportive. I decided to become a doula after becoming pregnant with my third son (because I wanted and WANT to be a stay-at-home mom). I now realize that being a doula definitly doesn't mean staying at home! Sadly, my third son died 10 hours after birth (on March 7) due to an untreatable birth defect (Classic Potter's Syndrome). The circumstances of his birth and death convinced me even more to pursue the doula life. I would be really interested to hear from doulas who work in smaller-sized cities/communities, especially conservative areas (as this is what Amarillo is). Also, I plan to attend DONA International's conference in Denver in July, so if anyone out there is going, maybe we can make a connection there. I realize a lot of this message should be posted in other Alldoulas forums, so.....I have something to keep me busy. Sorry for such a wordy post!!!

 butterflybirth!
What a great introduction; it's very nice to "meet" you! I'm Lori, and I'm a Certified Labor Doula through CAPPA. Dh and I live in Ohio with our two teenaged boys. I've been officially labor doula-ing for 3 years, and now I'm also studying to become a LCCE (Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator). I absolutely being a labor doula, which is my first and foremost passion (childbirth field wise), and I'm excited to broaden my skills and my services through childbirth ed.
I'm so sorry to hear of your little son's passing. I understand how that can draw you to doula work. It was attending my sister's labor/birth of my little stillborn niece that finally drew me in. I wish that you hadn't have had to go through that experience, but I'm a firm believer that these hard experiences can be used to reach out and help others. His 10 hours on earth holds a lot of meaning and purpose. I admire you for jumping in to help others through your doula work, even so soon after he passed away.
It's really great that you've discovered Alldoulas and have decided to join us! This is a really special gathering of ladies, and I really think that you will like it here. Jump in and reply to posts and start some threads if you'd like! Oh......and goodness gracious...don't worry about rambling too much. I'm the Queen of Rambles!! (or at least one of them! Can you tell?)

Welcome! I live in a small community, too, but I'm just getting started with my business, so I have little experience to offer. Perhaps we can learn together!
Your intro is not to wordy at all. If you think your's is bad, you should read mine.

Welcome butterfly, you've joined a wonderful community here!
I'm so very sorry to hear of your loss, but it is wonderful that you can take strength from the situation and lend it to other women.
Hope to see you around the forums a lot!
