Cool Greetings From Singapore

Hi Everyone

My name is Lisa, currently living in Singapore , but originally from the UK. I am taking the first tentative steps to becoming a Doula whilst living in Singapore.

My ultimate aim is to become a Midwife, but alas, no such training here for Midwives! I feel that becoming a Doula would be a great stepping stone to assist me on to a Midwifery course when I return to the UK in 2008.

Has anyone completed the CBI Doula course and then gone to the UK and successfully become a Doula? It's just that I have heard that if I do the CBI course, I will have to do another course upon my return to the UK.

Any advice would be appreciated. Right, now where did I put that Singapore Sling!!!

Lisa!!

Wow.....Singapore!!!! How exciting that you have found alldoulas.com and decided to join us!!

My name is Lori, and I'm a Certified Labor Doula through CAPPA. I live in Ohio (United States) happily married for 19 years and have two teenaged sons (14 & 17 yrs old).

Sorry, I am not familiar with how CBI is accepted in the UK. I have heard very good things about CBI in general, however! It's great that you're wanting to become a Midwife!!! There are quite a few doulas here that are also planning to become Midwives. You'll find lots of great support here! It's nice to "meet" you, and I look forward to reading more of your posts!

Hi Lisa,

Good to see a fellow Brit and expat!!

Just to say, my friend had a baby in Singapore a couple of years ago and she used a great doula - Billy someone or other. I know that Singapore expat community is small, you will probably know my friend - Kate Drewer!!

I also don't know about CBI in the UK, but I contacted DoulaUK to find out if I would have to do a "british" retraining when I returned to carry on and they said no, if my standing with Doula was still fine, so I expect they will accept most doula trainings as long as your membership is current etc.
