USA Today article on placenta eating

http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/...ngestion_N.htm

Quote:
The practice, known as placentophagy, is far from widespread and is received with great skepticism by more traditional medical experts. But among a small but vocal contingent of expectant mothers and proponents, it is strongly believed that the organ created by the woman's body to pass nutrients between mother and fetus and is expelled after birth is rich in chemicals that can help mitigate fluctuations in hormones believed to cause postpartum depression.

I know a women who had severe PND after all 3 her kids so with kid 4 she ate her placenta by shaving thin slices off it from the freezer. She didn't get any PND that time so I guess it works.
The article is trying to relate why animals eat their placentas and PND. What a load of nuts. They eat it for all sorts of benefits including added stamina to run away from a tiger or other predator if necessary.
I do believe that it can be beneficial to ingest if it is your own. I wouldn't want someone else's cause I don't know what they put into their bodies beforehand. hee hee

Interesting since I was just discussing this with DP last night. Made him a bit squeamish, lol, but it doesn't bother me.

I have heard that taking a small sliver under your toungue after birth will stop pp hemorraging.
