placenta encapsulation consent forms

so to those of you who also do placenta encapsulation (i know this is not very many of us but...) do you have any forms you have them sign to say 1). you do not necessarily guarantee x,y,z results from taking placenta medicine 2) do not take responsibility for any possible side-effects 3) ______ client is requesting that you perform x,y,z services with their placenta and they are handing it over to you for this purpose.

those of you who were PBi trained, what kind of consent forms does Jodie provide you with?

Yes, PBi does indeed use consent forms, that say you understand they don't guarantee anything and you're on your own with the outcomes.

For those of you who use forms/contracts with your clients, do you have anything covering what happens if there's a problem with the placenta and it needs to go to pathology? (Actual concerns, not where placentas are routinely sent to the lab.)

there are a lot of possibilities of why someone might not be able to use their placenta - last month one of my potential placenta clients had a totally retained placenta after the birth (no surprise considering how much pit they were giving her. grrrrr) and had to get an emergency d&c. she looked at her doula in the middle of everything and said "well i guess i cant get it encapsulated now"

in our doula contracts when we stipulate that client still has to pay even if they have a c-section, aren't happy with their birth or don't call us to come to their birth. this is reasonable because of the prenatals and on-call time. i don't think the same about placenta contracts though because being on-call for their placenta isn't really that complicated and because there are so many things that could keep them from being able to get their healthy placenta to me that are totally out of their control. anyways, i don't have them sign and date the contract until they actually hand it over to me. in my mind - at least this is how i wrote out my form - the consent form was less about less about contracting payment or guaranteeing services than it was about "yes, i do have permission to do x,y, and z to this person's organ and no, i can not guarantee results."

it's a good question though and i think i will write up an extra caveat in my informational handout about how it is not always possible to get your placenta for x,y and z reasons just so they have clear expectations and understand all the possibilities.

I think that's a good way to handle it. I'll keep that in mind, thanks! (Oh, and I have my first client lined up - a doula client who's been thinking about encapsulation but didn't know how to bring it up because she thought it might be a bit too freaky. )
