thanks for posting this brie - i was just reading a somewhat similar page on placenta triage 101! yesterday.

my favorite quote was:

"The membranes and the placenta have a distinctive metallic odor that is difficult to describe but is easily recognized with experience."

i swear i can smell that "distinctive metallic odor" through several layers of plastic biohazard bags and even on moms when they are close to pushing.
