my really great placenta brochures and moving forward with business
so i've been thinking about doing brochures for a while but never had a deadline. there was a doula meet and greet on saturday so friday night i busted out a brochure and, thanks to mac templates, it is really great looking. i'd love to get all ya'all's feedback on content and layout but don't know how to post a mac doc on here. anybody know how to do this?
i have informational handouts i gave to potential clients during interviews but i haven't stepped into the realm of advertising till now. considering i've been averaging at least a placenta a week since june with only word of mouth, i think i'm doing pretty good and wasn't in a rush to take this step.
husband and i have been talking about installing a triple sink and a bigger better placenta workstation area in the basement. this would streamline my process even more to allow for an influx of clients and make it much easier for me. the only downside for me is that its colder there.
i've also had lots of other doulas ask me to train them. i don't feel comfortable being my own certification organization but i would like to have more people doing this in the area and be certain of their practices so i can refer clients to them when i am out of town or too busy.
i'm still very much in the early planning stages of all of this but i am excited to see how it evolves.

Sounds great! Good luck Can you save the mac doc as a PDF and upload that? I can make docs pdfs using my print menu. Dunno if it works for mac docs.

I'd love to see it if you can find a way. I also use a pdf maker program (pdf995, free) but I don't know if they have a Mac version. I'm guessing if you sent me the original file I wouldn't be able to open it.

I think this is a great idea. I wouldn't want to have to certify other people, either. Then you'd bear some kind of responsibility for how they do things. And the actual placenta prep part is quite simple and straightforward. But I can see that it might be very useful to see how you handle things wrt clean-as-you-go, sterilization, etc. And it might just help others decide whether this is really something they want to do before they find themselves standing in a kitchen with a placenta in their hands!
I'd love to hear about where this goes for you.
As an aside, we were discussing 3rd stage in prenatal class last night. I brought out my newly-finished first jar of placenta pills to show everyone and they were way more excited about it than I anticipated. I think I have a couple more customers!
anybody have any good options for printing like 500 brochures for less than a bizillion dollars? color copying at kinkos runs almost $1 a brochure! vistaprint or others would charge about 50 cents or more for color brochures with a 100 to 500 minimum which is a lot for me.
i'm almost thinking of just buying a new $100 printer (it's about time anyway) with boarderless capabilities so i can just print my own.
I think you'll find that printing them on your own printer eats up so much ink (and if it's a colourful brochure you may find that you have to keep replacing the colour cartridge half way through to keep the colours balanced and looking good) that the cost of professional printing will start looking pretty reasonable! Not to mention the amount of time it takes.
Is there a university in Portland? There are tonnes of cheap(er) print shops around the universities here. Kinkos is much pricier. I've only used b&w brochures in the past (on coloured paper), but I've gotten them done at Staple for a price that is reasonable. It's cheaper to get them done near U of T, but then I'd have to drive downtown, pay for parking, etc. There's a Staples near me where I can take my stuff in (brochures, class binders), drop it off, and pick it up the next day, so a couple of cents extra per page is totally worth it for the time, gas and parking fees saved.
Here I would expect to pay .75-$1 for double sided colour printing. It's an investment. If you get them given to you flat you can save the folding fee and have folding parties at home. It takes some time to fold a hundred brochures, but you can do while watching tv, listening to music, chatting, etc. I used to get my kids to do them - child labour! Yours might be a bit little for good results, however. ;-)

I'd love to see it too, did you ever find a way to get in on here? If not, maybe you could email it? As for printing, black and white on a colored paper printed at home is what I do.
