One year old placenta for encapsulation?

I still have my placenta from my babe's birth last year and am wondering what you all think about encapsulating it at this point? It has been well frozen the entire time, not in a deep freeze but has never gotten frost bite or anything. I know this is not optimal, but surely I would still get some healing qualities from it?

Please chime in. Thanks.

Jodi from PBI recommends using it within 6mos from the time you freeze it.

I would consider adding dehydrated & ground placenta it to a cream or an ointment though.

IDK, there isn't really a standard recommendation exactly. the recommendations for organ meats is 3-6 months but that is also taking into account taste/texture which isn't as big of a deal with encapping.

personally, i'd follow similar to frozen breastmilk guidelines - 3-6 months in a standard freezer is good and up to 12 months in a deep freeze *should* be fine. longer than that... i have no idea - it could possibly still be safe depending on how it was stored but i just don't have a lot of info on nutritional decay while frozen. if any brave souls are planning on encapping their 2 year old placenta anyway, i'd love to hear about their experience with their placenta pills.

it also depends on how it was stored. double or even triple bagged in ziplock-style freezer bags with the air squeezed out is ideal. just frozen in those buckets the hospital often puts it in are my least favorite since there is a lot of air in there and i think they freezer burn quicker.

I think of it like meat if you will. Would you want to eat chicken that had been frozen for a year? Probably not. 3mos-6mos, sure.

thank you Ladies!!! I don't know what I would do without all of you. I answered 4 ladies' questions about their placentas being stuck in the freezer for too long and they dont know what to do anymore. I suggested if they feel comfortable encapsulating, then they should... if not, then they should plant it.
