How long does it take to dehydrate?

I'm sure every dehydrator is different. It's been only been on for like 5 hours, but it's starting to look pretty dried. Maybe I'm just too impatient, but I thought I would need to leave it overnight and now I'm worried.

Depends enormously on how powerful your dehydrator is. If you've got a high wattage one with a fan, five hours may do it. If the pieces snap, you're good to go, I think.

as long as its not on a high heat, i think it's totally ok to let it go a little longer. the drier it is, the longer lasting it can be as it will resist spoilage better. you can over-cook placenta but it's a lot harder to over-dry it since your goal is total mummification anyway.

when you do check it, you want to check the thickest pieces to make sure they are totally snap-crackle-pop dry.

It also depends if they dehydrator is fanless or has a fan. Mine takes about 6-8hrs on average to dehydrate a placenta. Mine is fanless.
