*No offense intended toward any of our placenta-eating members.
My eyes and mind have been opened so much since I first became a member of Alldoulas....Aussiedoula, you have really opened them! Lotus birth--which I had never even thought of or heard of, but is really interesting, and now placenta donations! I love it!
I keep having this image of canned placenta at a soup kitchen...tall cans with generic white labels with pictures of placenta on the front

My eyes have also been opened since becoming an Alldoulas member, but right now, I just want them shut, very, very tightly....sorry gals, this is not for me....

Is this for REAL? Is it not a spoof? I just cannot stand the thought of it and will join Cecilia in shutting my eyes...very, very, tightly. I'll just keep telling myself, "I didn't see that....I didn't see that....I didn't see that....."
Yeah, I'm not completely sure about this one either. It's really real? And technically, would it be considered cannibalism? I'm finding this interesting nonetheless.

I saw that and was wondering if I should write and ask if it's for real. I won't do it, though. If anyone wants to participate, they can do it!
Seriously.... I'm wondering if they have any legal red tape to get through. I mean, one can't even ship deer meat somewhere else without special, expensive licenses. Since a placenta is organ meat (from a HUMAN at that), then I would think that there would be some hoops to jump through in order to ship them to feed to other humans. Just pondering; I think about weird things sometimes.
it reminds me of that spoof website...i think it was manbeef?

Well, human placentophagy is real but I'm not sure about how legit this "program" is...
Personally, the placenta isn't mine, so I don't see it as my right to eat it or to donate for others to eat, hehe.
You're right though, it is an interesting concept. Our society is a wasteful one, we could be using a lot of resources that we tend to dispose of after only a single, initial use. Placentas are actually used in many products and for various scientific purposes, but maybe the US Food Industry will be cornering the market on Placentas For The Homeless very soon.

Some people don't consider it cannibalism, but I do. To me, it's like eating my finger or arm....or worse yet...eating someone else's finger or arm! The whole thing really repulses me, but I do realize that some people do it. I don't mean to sound disrespecting to those who do, as it's totally their business if they eat their own, but I can't pretend that I don't have these unshakable thoughts.
You know, this article really reminds me of something similar to the kinds of things that are in The Onion (a satirical magazine). The more I think of the legal aspects of pulling something like that off, the more I think it's a joke.
