CAPPA question re: pp cert
Okay so I'm certified as a birth doula and took a pp training through DONA and took a LE training through CAPPA... I really like both organizations a lot... but recently have found a hitch in the DONA pp cert requirements that I am not in agreement with and am considering switching to CAPPA for that particular certification (which then would make more sense to just dual certify as a CAPPA birth doula too and eventually have all certs under one org right ) anyway my question is would CAPPA accept a DONA pp doula training in place of the CAPPA pp doula training or would they ask me to take another training under a CAPPA trainer? I hope that's not confusing it reads odd...

I believe you have to take a CAPPA training. Typically trainings do not transfer from one group to another.

You do have to attend a CAPPA training for the PPD.

the advantage to having both certifications is that you can be listed on both their websites, more referrals!

LeAnne, this could be redundant, as I know I've recommended this to Cathy and possibly others....But, especially since you're already a CAPPA member, why not apply for the postpartum doula scholarship? It wouldn't cost you anything, and probably only take an hour or so to complete the process. Scholarships are awarded quarterly, so it's never too long of a wait.
My initial training was "non-accredited," so this was the route I took. The distance course was a good review, and I basically completed my certification for a total cost of $35 + the cost of CPR cert....
I don't have the exact link, but it's on their site. www.cappa.net
Good Luck!

Hey Beth, that'd be cool but I wouldn't feel right about asking for a scholarship, especially since I've already taken a training... I just need to get over the issue I have with the DONA requirement, it's really not that big of a deal I was just peeved by it and felt like if I could take my cert elsewhere I would. Candice, as soon as I get some more stuff done on my list (which is growing by the minute ) I'll be signing up to take the CAPPA CBE distance course. *woot* I've got to get my other stuff completed before taking on another cert though

Good Luck Cathy! And regardless of the outcome, congratulations!!
(I have found, particularly in my Doula work, that sometimes it's about putting the energy out there...Sometimes it doesn't come back directly, or in the way you expect, but it does come back. Know what I mean?)
Will keep my fingers crossed for you!
