ppd insurance coverage

My post partum client is asking about insurance coverage. Is there such coverage for post partum services? If so can you tell me what the code is so I can pass the info on?

Thanks,

Gina

I have not had an insurance company as of yet cover my services, b/c I am certified they can use it as pre-tax spending through their employer and as tax write offs....oh you're in Canada. I'm not sure what the deal is up there. SOrry!

I'm glad you brought this up. I do not carry doula insurance because I feel that it is pretty unlikely I would be sued as the doula, so I just choose not to spend the money on it.
But recently I started thinking that I would like to carry it for postpartum work, as I think the liability risk is greater since I am doing newborn care.
I am interested if anyone else carries it...

I initially thought you were asking about mamas being reimbursed for using your postpartum services, but wanted to make sure first: are you wanting to know about that or are you looking for companies that will offer Postpartum Doula insurance coverage?

If you're looking for reimbursement/filing codes, according to the GentleBirth website, they are as follows:
Quote:
Postpartum Doula Reimbursement
  • 59410 Vaginal Delivery Only (with or without episiotomy and/or forceps) including postpartum care
  • 59425 4-6 prenatal visits
  • 59426 > 7 prenatal visits
  • 59430 Postpartum Care only (separate procedure)
  • 59515 Cesarean delivery only including postpartum care
I'm not sure if/how they differ for Canadian coverage, or when these codes were last updated.

I think the OP is talking about her clients getting reimbursed by THEIR insurance company for her services, I think you are talking about liability insurance for yourself. I carry it and it is CM&F Group. www.cmfgroup.com
