Asked to do a PP job ... need advice

I have never done any pp work before and am not certified by any organization to do pp work. I am a in the process of certifying with ALACE to be a doula and starting my midwifery training by buying the book and working with a midwife. .... My question is what do I ask for when it comes to money. I am not sure what is appropriate. Also what advice to any of you have when it comes to pp work. She wants me there for just nights, she is recovering from a c-section, and the baby is having some major milk issues (projectile vomiting and on zantax at 2 weeks old) Any advice on charging and best tips would be very much appreciated. Thanx

It depends on where you live really and what your qualifications are. I charged 10 an hour before I was certified/trained and now charge between 15-25 an hour. I live in a very rural area though. Certified ppdoulas in major cities get 30 and up, in regular sized cities 20 is normal. Maybe ask around your area. I would always ask more for nights than days just because of the inconvenience factor.

That extreme of reflux in a full term baby (assuming baby is fullterm here) screams an allergy/intolerence to me. I would suggest an elimination diet. LLL and Newman have great breastfeeding books. Hold baby upright for at least 20 min. after feedings, sleep in an upright position, i.e. car seat, etc. should help baby keep down food.
I hope it goes well! Keep us updated.

I would find out what other pp doulas are charging in your area because fees can vary greatly dependind on where you live.
