Got the strangest call the other day :)

I got the strangest call the other day, and at first wasn't going to call it back. I was gone and when I came home my ds told me that a man had called saying that "J called and was interested in your services." i immediately thought that maybe it was someone not on the up and up, but decided to call back. I was very cautious because it was someone who wanted to hire me over the phone for pp doula work and J turned out to be the wife I was still very cautious as they wanted to hire me without an interview or meeting or anything.

I ended up going to their home on Thursday and Friday and had such a blast. They are such a great couple and the best part was how all three of us (mom, dad and me) sat around and laughed at how I thought maybe dad was a cooky guy looking for unethical massage.

The big problem was that they called my home number and in all the years I have been in this business I have always had a separate number. Turns out they called the hospital that I work for and they gave my home number out - that is where the confusion came in (I am really swaying on contacting the hospital and my boss and letting them all know that it is not okay to give my home number, but my cell is okay - if a weirdo is calling I don't want them to easily be able to do a reverse look up on my home number).

Anyhow, I am going back next week to work with the family again - they are so great and I am having so much fun!!!!

That sounds really great! I have had several client's whos husbands were the first ones to contact me and not them, so don't be surprised if you get more dads that would like to have postpartum care as well. In many families I help dad just as much as mom.

I know that makes me so uncomfortable for many reasons, but one of the main one is safety and the second is that my home number isn't one that I make everyone be quiet before I answer, the little ones answer, etc. I don't have rules on the home number and many times the kids don't even take good messages, and I could see that making my work reputation not look the greatest if my almost 6 yr old answers and that wouldn't be fair (professionally speaking).

I think I will have to bring this up at our next meeting.

I totally understand the dad making contact, but with me recently getting my masage license I had some "creepies" call looking for unethical things and since this dad just said he wanted to utlize my services my ds thought he wasn't on the up and up. Thankfully he was and the family is GREAT.

Upon reading the title, my first thought was, "Again? Michelle and her weird phone calls! " I'm glad that you're getting to work with such a great couple!

LOL - I know that is what I thought when I got the message from ds because a) it was a man who called and b) he just said he wanted to utilize my services.

I can't tell you how absolutely hilarious it was when I explained it to them. I explained it to mom when I talked with her on the phone, but she was so medicated that she hardly remembered so when I was at their house she asked me about it and what I meant. Her husband couldn't believe men would be that frank about what they would ask for and he kept wondering why they weren't afraid of being charged with 'prostitution". I have to admit that it wouldn't be hard for the police to set up a sting like that!!!
