Post Thunder Bay benefits from midwife plan

Thunder Bay benefits from midwife plan

By Staff - The Chronicle-Journal

August 21, 2005

The province has provided more than $500,000 to fund two midwives for Thunder Bay.

The funding announcement Friday is part of the government’s $13.8-million investment to expand midwifery services in Ontario.

The funding is good news for women here requiring birthing services, said MPP Michael Gravelle (L-Thunder Bay-Superior North).

“Our government is expanding the availability of midwives here and across the province, and providing more choice for women,” he said.

“This investment will help meet the growing need for midwifery in this community.”

Gravelle said the new funding will also cover the costs of the increase in midwifery fees and operating expenses, resulting from a new agreement last December between the government and the Association of Ontario Midwives.
