Interview and Prenantals

I really love reading how others run thier business. I've looked over some threads but can't find this question.

Is the interview seperate from your prenantals.

I plan on doing 2 prenantals for the client. Is the interview a seperate meeting all together? So would you do an interview and then two prenatals. Or is the interview one of the prenatals.

What exaclty would you go over in an interview that would be different then the first prenatal appointment.

Thanks for the help.

Yep. For me, the interview is different, and doesn't count as a prenatal. In an interview, I just meet with the woman and her partner (if she has one), go over some basic stuff, give them a copy of my contract for looking over, and just see if we "mesh" well.

Yeah, what Kacy said. The interview is where we meet to see if we click and if they want to hire me. Prenatals are after I'm hired.

An interview is very different from a prenatal - at an interview, I'm answering their questions, explaining what doulas do, expalining what I do at a birth. I don't go into any detail about the topics we will be covering in prenatals.

Yup, much the same as others have posted, the interview and prenatals are different and separate.

The interview - generally lasts about an hour, I really try not to go over this amount of time (always leave them wanting more...)
- I have a list of questions that guide a good conversation.
- I'm assessing: personality fit, interests, knowledge level, and expectations.
- I'm providing information: about how I practice, my philosophy, my personality, often sharing my contract (although sometimes this waits until the follow up conversation), and encouraging the parent(s) to interview several doulas so they make an informed choice.
