Yes. I've had a homebirth, and I made a birth plan for my own homebirth and found it really helpful. But it was nothing like a hospital birth plan that has a lot more, normally because you have more options in the hospital regarding procedures and such. I say keep it short and make it a list of things you want for pain relief. Lighting, candles, aromatherapy, massage, accupressure, things like that. Also if they are having a few people attend the birth then write down what their roles are. For instance I wrote mom was to help me in labor as well as DH, MIL was to take care of other child, etc.
For a back up plan I just basically wrote that the only interventions I want were those that I medically needed. Baby was to not leave my sight, if he had to go to NICU my mom or DH were to go with. No circumcision, no Hep. B, Vit K, or eye goop, and I wanted to BF as soon as possible.
Most of the moms I have them just write the basics, otherwise they start getting into pages and it's too long. I also have them put the transfer birth plan into their hospital bag if they have one or baby's bag. For homebirths I tell them to hang it up on a place where people can see. Usually the fridge or computer desk.
