Prenatal/Postpartum Visits

Hello Ladies,
I was wondering how many prenatal & postpartum visits do you offer to your clients? Do they vary because every client's needs are different?

In each prenatal visit what do you go over? How long is each meeting? In your postpartum visits what do you go over? How long is each meeting?Do you have different info for different couples such as an epidural birth ,induction birth,c/s birth & of course NATURAL!!!! & what ever else I didn't mention.

I know I am getting nosey, but I have been trying to get a steady system going ,but I am having a LOT of probelms. So I thought I would ask you wonderful ladies for ideas & see if I could get some advice. So I can get a feel to what to teach, ask,& go over in each session.

Thank you all !!!!!

hope this helps

I am working with my first client so I feel your pain! lol A doula named Crystal Skidmore (?) has a wonderful website www.embracing-childbirth.com and she spells out exactly what she does in each prenatal visit. I emailed her asked if I could print it out for my own use and she was fine with that. Her list is very extensive and I don't use it exactly but it did help me to form a plan. That is the one thing I feel was lacking in my training. I felt like I didn't really know where to start. Of course you really want to spend some time letting the mom/parents just talk about what they are worried about and what they expect but you are there to educate them as well. I also typed up a birth expectations form I use to be sure I cover everything. I reads kind of like a birth plan questionaire and I can go over it like I just want to know but it opens the door for questions from the parents. Like "why would I want a hep-lock etc." It is not as if I have to go over it line by line, either. After the first meeting I noted the questions I knew the answers to and then had an idea of what I still needed to find out in the second meeting. I am going on and on. If you would like me to send you any of the sheets I am using, client profile, questionaire, birth prefrences etc, just email me directly. I am more than happy to share what I have put together so far. But I have to say I will be using the idea of the 3 ring binder. thanks so much for sharing that one! Michelle, I think. Ok, I will stop for now

The link that Tiffany gave you is an excellent thread. I know I put my input into that discussion so I will not repeat it again Please feel free to read the thread and if you have any questions I would love to answer them.
