BIRTH ARTS training in SAVANNAH GA

This was a fantastic program and great workshop. This is the second type of Doula training I have recieved and was far more informative than the other one.

I marked 9 for prenatal coverage because although we talked a lot about it- I think maybe some of the ladies would have liked to hear a bit more about what basic stuff should be covered and what should be left alone. I know we talked on it a little but a bit more direction there possibly cold have been helpful.

I did mark an 8 for hands on and organization but only for the sheer fact that we ran out of time to get to all the hands on stuff and with the organization a lot of that was simply the make up of our group.

There were some already trained Doulas like myself there and the rest were newbies- it was easy for us women to really get hung up on some topics. Having a basic timeline of topics to be covered printed off for each attendee I think would have helped some people and I know everyone would have loved to get more hands on- we had a good size group though and simply ran out of time.

HOWEVER the Doula Training Book that Demetria Clark has put together for this program is OUT OF THIS WORLD AWESOME!!!!
I didn't even realize it was packed full of so many cool things until after the workshop was over!
I love how we were able to address the things that are best talked through with Demetria here and that the rest we can absorb in our own time frames with the book as we work through the rest of our certification.

I do think though if we had a general weekend course outline and if we split up some of the hands on stuff into saturday evening and not saving it all for sunday- that we A) would have been more motivated to not get as lost in some topics as we did and move things along. and B) being more motivated to stay on topic we would have perhaps gotten more covered quicker allowing for more "play time" on Sunday.

we did discuss some of this as a group while Demetria was here and more or less came to the conclusion we all talked to much over one of our favorite subjects- BIRTH! Hehe.

I really liked everything that did get covered and thought the topics were well rounded and exactly what was needed for newbie Doulas- even us old-be's walked away from the basic knowledge stuff with a new spin on things in our brain. I love that as a practicing Doula there was no part of this training that was boring or seemed mundane. Demetria was a hoot and really told it to us straight and really got into the nitty gritty of how we percieve things- I love that!!

I could go on all day on how wonderful this workshop training was and the invaluble training book that we all recieved.
I love that the whole program is so grounded in the womens ability to do and be- very empowering! Totally changed my outlook in so many areas and has got me even more hyped up for my next birth expierence- baby #5 due March 24th at home!

Again Wonderful, indepth, hands on, very "crunchy", shock full of the right kind of info! Thanks Demetria!!!!! Thank you Birth Arts!!!!!!

I haven't had an opportunity to take any workshops or courses with Demetria or Birth Arts, but I just wanted to comment on what a great review this was.

Minda,
Your review was on the money!!
As a trainer I appreciate your candor and honesty.
It was for me an amazing weekend working with talented, creative and brilliant women. Savannah is going to have a birth Revolution!
I too wish we had more to learn together and explore the endless road of birth.

Thumbs up

Thanks for this review.

I am fortunate enough to just be starting the Birth Arts training as Distance Leaner. I have had my first look at the book and started on a few of the first quick and easy activities and so far it great. It challenges you to think deeply about things and how they really make you feel.

I anticipate that this course is going to give me a good rounding out of my knowledge and outlook and will help to make me a little more 'crunchy' and in tune, and I think I need that. I have enough focus on cerebral already.

Thanks for putting together a great course Demetria!

Follow up- one year later

I was perusing through Alldoulas and came across this old post of mine. I wanted to add that a year has past and I recently finally finished everything in my Doula training book. It was pretty hit and miss for a while as baby #5 was born the month after the training at my house =-)
I wanted to say though that the book is awesome! I am so glad that I not only got the hands on training from the weekend but also the additional training through the completion of the doula training book (aka the distance learning book).
Being able to go through that over and over again and absorb information at my own pace was wonderful.
I think it is great that BIRTH ARTS is so thurough in their training. Many programs do the "shock you full of info" over the weekend deal and hope that you gain the other stuff simply through expierence and reading. BA, takes you further on the journey, bringing you through discovering birth in a whole new way.
In laymans terms "they don't leave you hanging!".

Well, that is all I wanted to add. I hope more of you out there consider this wonderful program!...Minda Bare, Savannah GA
