Feeling worthwhile....

The last birth I attended was in July, just before my family and I moved. It was a 23 hour adventure - and it was a truly rewarding experience.
I supported the first-time mom and dad physically and emotionally thru their labour which was long and exhausting, mostly for mom, of course. We walked the halls of the hospital, I massaged her lower back for hours, I listened as the couple discussed their options and helped answer their questions. I stood by them when the doctors insisted my client have an epidural and the syntocin drip.
I saw how impressed one doctor was with this mom's dedication and determination to have her baby with as little intervention as possible.
A baby girl was finally born and when I went for my postpartum visit, the couple made me feel so important and special. They said they could not have done it without me. It was such a wonderful thing to hear! They even paid me more than my fee!
Anyway, I am looking forward to my next "satisfied client"!!

Isn't that just the best feeling?! There is little that can compare with being a small, but important, part of the childbirth miracle. Good for you!
May you be priveleged to enjoy attending many more families during this life altering time!

I know how awesome that makes you feel--it feels like you are on top of the world. It's so great to be such a help and know they felt you were a valuable part of their birth team. Way to go!

Yep, that baby only gets born once and mama only gets to have that birth one time and it's an INCREDIBLE feeling to know you were a part of it and appreciated
