I'm so excited! - UPDATE!
I just had to post about my excitement.
A few weeks ago I stopped by our local Crisis Pregnancy Center to touch base with them. There are alot of teen moms where I live...I was a teen mom....I want to work on my teen support certification through CAPPA so I thought this would be a good move to make contacts. First of all, I was not prepared and was totally stumbling over my words in an attempt to look "official" but once I got past that I started to make some sense and it was a nice meeting. I left them with a few of my cards and called it a day. Well, last week I got a call from a social worker from our county high school interested in some of my services. She has 8 pregnant teens and two of them are "homebound" and not able to attend the support/education group that they have weekly. She is worried that they are not getting all they need and since they..the social workers...are over loaded they are wanting me to do some home visits and help educate these girls about nutrition, birth positions...etc. I am so excited about this. She also said that she would like to have me come speak to the group about what a doula does, coping with pain in birth, birth positions...etc. Wow! I am loving this. Teens are so near and dear to my heart...I guess since I was there and know how much it would have meant to me to have a doula....or education....support of any kind.
I just had to share my excitement and knew you ladies would support me and get excited with me.
UPDATE! So, I went into the crisis preg. center on Wed to thank them for passing on my name and hopefully to meet lady in charge since she was gone last time in. I took them a big box of freebies that I got too many of and thought they could use. I met L, head lady and made really good contact with her. She said after seeing my card she started to research doulas and was totally receptive to our field of work. She does a "baby, Bible and basics" class that does a 30min Bible study and then 30 minutes of baby care basics with young girls or moms in need. That Wed night happened to be the last night of the class so she said I could sit in and make some contacts. It was great. Not only did I get to make some contacts but she asked me to address the class and tell them about myself and what I do. COOL! She also is interested in starting a labor and birth informational class to these women and asked if I would be interested in teaching it or some of it. I am overly excited about all of this. I can't believe how it is all coming together. Thank God.
