Postpartum compliment

I went to a postpartum visit today. It was a really quick visit and as I was getting ready to leave the mom said to me:

Mom: "Can I tell you what I appreciated most about your support?"
Me: I'm thinking - Heck yeah, it's good to know!
Mom: "When the nurse came into the shower (room) and she asked if everything was okay, you said 'Yes. She's feeling a little pushy.' so calmly! I was nervous and panicked at that moment and just hearing how calm your voice was was what I will remember as the best part. I found I could relax more because you were so calm."

How nice was that? An interesting what mom's take away with them. That is a moment that was inconsequential to me, but obviously meant a lot to her.

That's great! Don't ya love to hear that kind of thing from a mom?

I had a client recently say (after being stuck at 9 cm for hours), "I remember saying 'I can't do it anymore' and you and <hubby> said 'You are doing it!' and I thought How can I argue with that?"

How sweet! I think being a calming force is a very important part of doula-ing. Yay!
