Red face My first interview meeting (my heart broke and grew again)

So i had an inquiry about 4 days ago about my services. We've been emailing back and forth and well her last email this is what she said:

"so excited to meet you. this doula thing, is something i had thrown to the wind, something i always dreamed of having during birth, but it was just so far out of reach. so God Bless you for being available and HERE right after i had given up hope...

and here's to hoping this birth will go more planned then the past. or at least a little quicker and more natural.. i will tell you my birth story when you get here and then I'll pick your bottom jaw up off my floor :
)"

And guess what... It did. She is 24 years old shes got a gorgeous platinum blond hair blue eyes 2 year old boy. Shes so gorgeous, her belly is precious and her husband is so lovable! He is deploying 2 weeks before her due date (but there is a 10% chance they might fly him out to Afghanistan the day after the birth) and he just seems do great.

Her previous birth was like a suspense movie. She told me about the doctor she was dismissed from the naval hospital on base & had a pending law suit (at the time she didn't know for what) because she cut into someone's bowels and sewed them back up and the person died two days after (!!!!!!!!!!! talk about malpractice).
They used the vacuum to pull the baby out because they thought the baby weighed 11 pounds and in all reality he weighted 7 pounds (she just had a big belly and lots of amniotic fluids).
Then in Hawaii she had to have a procedure done because they thought she had breast cancer and they stick a needle in her breast (no anesthesia because it would only take a sec) and they where supposed to brake down the mass and suction it with he needle but instead the doctor thought she was beating a cake mix and the poor girl was suffering. Her upper ducts bled with milk mixed in and her bottom ducks worked fine.

We went through the birth plan we went through comfort measures we went through everything. She was so happy and please *as im typing this i just got a text message from her* (I am so greatful you fell into our lives. I think i love you already) *and a tear just rolled down my cheek*

I think doulas a little guardian angels sent to protect pregnant women. We are the human epidular for those who seek medicinal support and a peace of mind for the confident mothers. I am so happy i have chosen to be a Doula, i am proud to call myself a doula.

I just wanted to share this with you all, i know some of you would like to hear more so as the weeks go by (and yes i have a written consent that i can share this with the world *actual words of the dad*) i will come in here and write.

Thank you all and i hope you feel close to the emotions im feeling when i type this

HURRAY FOR MOMMIES!

I would like to hear your thoughts!

WOW! This lady has an amazing story.

You are obviously just what the doctor ordered for this couple! It has warmed MY heart just reading how much this mama appreciates your service already. You have done such a great job connecting with her and making her feel secure. Well done doula!

that is so touching...thank you for sharing!! My 1st client had a wonderful, peaceful, unmedicated labor and did beautifully but her birth turned out to be a nightmare (in part to her dr, IMO). The poor mama almost bled to death and the baby did not breathe for over a minute! For a few days I was left wondering "what am I doing"? Two of the most frightening things that can happen, happened during my very 1st birth (shoulder dystocia and hemorrhaging)!! I was traumatized. But the mama told me she couldn't have done it without me. I helped her to stay calm and conscious. So, thank you for sharing...these stories do make our job more meaningful and give us the strength to keep sharing the journey with women!

Well a little update on Mama Mary:

Last night at around 10:02 to be exact (lol yes i just checked my ph lol) she called me telling me she couldn't breathe and her contractions where very strong. I would hear distress in her voice and her wanting me to come over, so i asked her would you and your husband feel comfortable me coming over and staying with you. She said YES! please i was about to go to the hospital. so i gathered my handy doula bag (which is strategically placed in the closet next to the door lol) and flyed out the door.

I get there and her husband said thank you so much for coming with this sense of relieve. I walked in and she is laying on her side with pillows (like we practiced yay!) and i asked her if was going through a contraction... The night goes on we practice some breathing (she said the hee hee haaa was not working lol shes adorable) because she had a pattern but she was going to fast and telling me she felt light headed. She tells me she needs to puke but she cant, she knows is going to make her feel better but she just can't puke. 11:30 about 5 contractions in that hour, 12:30 comes around... 1:30...and she puked! YAY! Thats all she needed. Her contractions stopped and her baby put on a show for us! Oh! It was so amazing.

So today (for the doula appreciation month which is in may but she wanted to do it b4 lol) we are getting pedis! yay!

Well i will keep you all updated lol i ♥ this mom. Shes in her 24's adn shes so amazing and strong, she did beautiful during the contractions. And she wants Bob Marley when shes in the hospital (yeah!)

Instead of patterned breathing, just remind her to breath slow and steady, especially to exhale all the way so she doesn't get a stitch in her side. Talk to her about Optimal Fetal Positioning as well. Does she know what position the baby is in? I only ask because any time a client has prodromal labor, I think of mal positioning. I am so glad you have these clients and they have you.

So i think she will be due earlier.. what do you think?

Her husband is deploying on the 13th. She is due on the 26th... I think that even though she "brainwashed" (according to her) herself, i think that the stress of getting so close to "D-Day" and him not being there is going to play a toll and daddy's wishes might come true! But then again she might not and it could be the opposite and might be after her dd...

Any thoughts? Has anyone been through this?

Mental powers can completely hold off labor, or kick a woman into labor. Just tell her to stay positive. She WILL have this baby before he deploys. Tell her to say that mantra to herself every day, lots, OUTLOUD. Betcha it works.

Don't forget prayer... I spent Wednesday praying like mad that my VBAC mamma would get the birth she wanted and deserved, and she went into labor that night! (she was 0/0/floating the day before at her OB- and the ob told her that her pelvis wasn't shaped right to accommodate a baby!) Spent a lot of time praying back in Sept that baby would hold off til his daddy was home on leave- and we got that one too.

Awesome pictures. I especially love that first close up of the baby. So, give us the details, after you've rested.
