how do you do it?

I work at a daycare as well as doing births for certification and I just always seem to get sick near a birth or as soon as I get a potential client. I drink high pulp orange juice to get my vitamin C...

Are there supplements, teas, ideas you have to boost my immune system?

I have a client due on May 5th, notorious for early births and I am coughing up a storm.

I am going to hit the dayquil and suck on cough drops before I go to their house for our prenatal. OMG I fogot I have to get everything ready for that, gosh.

How long have you worked at the daycare? I ask only because when I was in school working on my teaching degree so many of us complained about how sick we always were and our teachers told us the first nine months to one year is the worst and then after that you seem to not catch all the ickies that the kids have. I would suggest washing your hands more or perhaps even carry a small bottle of hand santizers in your pocket and use it frequently. Whenever I had the sickies (when I did daycare) I always made sure that everyone washed their hands more and used hand santizer. For some it helped and others snotted all over each other and well the illness traveled. It does get better though.

Take Emergen-C 2-4 a day. Get them at a health food store but some regular groceries carry them too.
For me regardless if I have a cold or not I always get a dry tickle in my throat and cough at hosp. births so I take tons of throat lozenges (i like Ricola honey/herb kind) and just pop em during hosp births along with warm tea and lots and lots of water.
ALso if you feel you are getting sick maybe some echinacea/goldenseal (as long as you are not pregnant) that is my family's antibiotic and garlic is great it fights off everything. Spread a clove on some buttered toast..it's spicy but try to get it down fast.
These are things that work for me... Good luck..it's so embarassing to be coughing and sniffling at a birth.

Oh, I SWEAR by the Emergen-C and garlic Kim mentioned. I even drink Emergen-C when I'm feeling tired, esp at a birth so I am UP before I get DOWN. Lol

A great way to boost the immune system is astragulas root...it is similiar to echinachea except you can take it year round. It's great to take after being sick to strengthen the immune system and keep from getting sick so easily
afterwards.

When I'm sick I take echinachea, about 1 dropperful every 15min. for the first hour, then every 1/2hr for the next hour, then about every 2-4 hours after that for the first day. Usually by the second day my symptoms are lessened. Along with that I take about 2000-3000mg. Vit. C for the first day...about 1000mg. 3x daily. Then I take 500mg. 3x daily after that until I feel better.

Hope you feel better soon.

How did this birth go? Were you sick when your client went into labor? Have you come up with a plan to stay healthier?
