Rebozos
Does anyone have any links they can share on how to use a rebozo, or can explain a few techniques?
I've never used one, but am interested. Thanks!

I've used a rebozo once. It was on a mom with an OP baby. We used the rebozo as a sling to do a belly lift and we walked around the hospital for awhile. You should have seen the looks we got.
I also had mom get in the knee chest position and I stood over her and wrapped the rebozo around her belly and jiggled (more funny looks from the nurses that kept coming in to see- I was standing on the bed :p ). The OB and I were hoping it would move the baby up and allow her to turn.
The baby never did end up turning and was born direct OP (with no drugs, yay mom!). But it was fun trying out something new on a laboring mom.

i saw a dr on birth day yesterday say babies cant be born face up. i'd like to know where my 2nd son came from then teehee!!! too bad the rebozo didnt work for your momma but at least there were no further complications.if its any consolation OP babies are seens as blessed in many native american traditions and are called "Star Gazers"
i've tried a few times to use a rebozo as something for the moms to hang off if they want to hang by tying it around me and the mom, while i sit on the bed, and she squats to the floor, hanging from the rebozo. it helps since i dont really have the arm strength.

Gotta love those "informative" birth shows. This is the reason I can't watch them without throwing something at the TV.
I want to add that mom didn't even tear and her birth was one of the most beautiful births that I have seen.

thought i'd add my OP baby was born after only 10 hours of labor, and only about 4 of that was the real active hard stuff, and maybe 30-45 minutes of pushing.
i was watching amazing births last night and a woman gave birth on a boat after missing the first earlier boat. she said they were standing on the pier going "what do we do!" and i'm yelling at the tv "go home!!" lol whats sad is she said she's bound and determined to have a hospital birth next time and i bet you anything she'll probably have a planned induction. i was a tad annoyed with the couple who had thier baby in the car and let some guy use his pocket knife to cut the cord. even the doc said in the interview to leave mom and baby attached! ::sigh::

here are some of my favs....
http://www.pattiramos.com/Rebozo.html (pictures of using one)
http://www.spinningbabies.com/Rebozo.html
There is also a Video/BOoklet you can order called Comfort MEasures for Childbirth by Guadalupe Trueba, you can order it here.. http://www.rebozoway.org/ordering/visuals.htm
I am still learning with it..but I used it around moms when they are sitting on the ball...a wrap it around back, I am sitting in front on chair or couch and my foot is straight out on the ball to keep mom steady but allowing her to lean back into the rebozo this also allows dad to put some pressure on moms back without feeling like he is going to push her off the ball.
I use it for OP babes...as explained above in previous post...also for moms that are exhausted, epidural, or just want to lay down, or baby seems to look best with mom on her back...i can stand on bed and put rebozo under moms back and hips and wiggle them to allow movement to still happen and get pressure off mom's back and inferior vena cava.
I use it sitting above or standing above mom....rebozo is in front across chest and she can hang/relax fully being supported by me...also in the squat position I hold mom like in a swing so she can get the full benefit of the squat yet feel completely supported. THe websites above have lots of pics and you can just start from there...it's a cool tool..

Yes, Kim, thanks so much for the links! That is great info, the pictures help 100%!
I'm going to buy a rebozo now because of you gals. I'm going to buy the red one at doulashop.com....
I found www.doulashop.com and have spoken with Amber, the owner. She is very sweet! Her business is new so I urge you to check it out. If you purchase anything, be sure to tell her Tiffany from alldoulas.com sent you!

tied around the eyes and ears to block out distracting sound and sights to focus completely within in silence...for me personally it would drive me absolutely crazy to have something around my head and I have yet to try it on anyone else although I tell them it's an option..most agree with me that it would be nerve wracking not relaxing..Instead I suggest maybe an eye mask if they want...it's a lot of fabric..

OMG my midwife used that on me with my first birth.. My mother had thought she was insane but it worked to get me to push correctly!!! Thats AWESOME! She just used a bedsheet though, she tied off the ends and she held it while I pulled and it helped me push..
As far as what the OB said about Posterior babies.. ALL 3 of mine were born sunny-side up.. I don't know where he gets his info from..
Just to add, I had no idea what it was called or why she done it until now.. Learn something new everyday!!!!!!!!

Make your own rebozo
I hope this hasn't been posted before, sorry if it has. Anyway, since rebozos are so expensive, I thought this was great!
