Recipes for Labor Ice/Laborade?
The only one I know about is pouring some red raspberry leaf tea into an ice tray and sucking on those for labor.
When I go to my client's home next week, I'm going to have her make a tray and just wanted to know if there were any other recipes.

Labourade Recipe
Mentioned in one of my previous posts, Laborade is awesome stuff for a labouring mama! The calcium and magnesium help in effective muscle contraction, the honey gives energy, and the lemon and water are essential fluids.
Mix the following well in a blender:
1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
1/3 cup honey (to taste)
1/4 tsp salt
2 calcium/magnesium tablets, crushed
Water to make 4 cups
(This mixture can be made ahead of time and frozen.)
Variants on this recipe can be found here with yummier stuff for mamas who can't stomach lemon (substitutes include apricot nectar and pineapple).

Tasty Laborade
I am just starting out and I have alot of questions. Thanks you guys for all your help.
Maybe its just me, or I used the wrong honey or something, but when I made laborade with the following ingredients:
1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
1/3 cup honey (to taste)
1/4 tsp salt
2 calcium/magnesium tablets, crushed
Water to make 4 cups
I thought it was pretty gross, far too sweet and the honey was overpowering if you know what I mean. Is there a certain honey thats more mild/better or is there a way to tweak the recipe so it tastes better? Is the honey necessary?

Try the other recipes here:
Labourade Recipes (click underlined link to view page).
Recipes 3, 4, and 5 don't have any honey, and may taste a lot less sour. Some sourness is good to aide saliva production to stop dry mouth, hehe. These drinks provide quick calories, an energy boost, and rehydration for mama.
I also want to commend you on trying things yourself before giving them to your mamas!
I do this too, both as a mother and a Doula - I don't give anything to my child or clients that I haven't tried myself, hehe .

In this recipe (and others on this site) it includes calcium/magnesium tablets. Do you feel there is concern in giving this to the mom, you know kind of overstepping the line as far as medical stuff? I'm just trying to understand where the line is better for myself. I do understand that you would of course give the parents the pros/benefits and cons/risks on it.
Thanks for your input,
Annie

This stuff is amazing!
As far as the question about 'medical stuff'. IMO I think it's the same as reminding a mom to take prenatal vitamins or suggesting proper nutrition, etc. And, of course, I would never MAKE the mom drink it. It would probably come up in conversation, or I'd offer it to her, and the choice is hers to make
