Question Oh No!!Breached!

Mom just called me this morning and said doctor did exam and that he was pretty sure the baby is breached. Feet first. He said they want to do ultrasound in the morning and schedual c-sec for later this week So, hum... her due date is the 27th, 2nd baby, and she really doesn't want a c-sec. I was trying to think of positions to help. How about butt in the air-head down to the floor/bed one? If so how long should she try a position? Do I need to use a rebozo. I have a friend who pick me one up in mexico but I haven't gotten it from her yet, and have never used one. Please if you know any tips tricks to get this baby to turn please let me know. Thanks.

In our Resources section we have a link to Spinning Babies which has some good suggestions for turning breech babies.

I had a young client with a breech baby and we tried everything for 2 weeks and nothing could turn him. He ended up having club feet--now that may not have anything to do with him not wanting to be head down, but things like that always stay in the back of my mind that maybe there is a reason.

Hope everything turns out OK--good luck to you and your client!

I just noticed I spelled breech wrong... I'm just frazzeled over the whole thing.

Spinning Babies, and the site Bekah mentioned are great!
You can also try:
Turning A Breech Baby.
Midwife's Collection of Breech Turning Techniques.
The Webster Technique.
Information for families expecting a breech baby.

There are also a few threads we've had here at AllDoulas that should be easy to find by doing a search for "breech".

Hi there - I also have a client whose baby is persistantly breech. I have been a little freaked out that I have given her all the info that I can. She isn't due until 12th Sept but is due to have a section on Monday (28th Aug).

This observation you made Tiffany has done a little to ease my frantic mind - perhaps there is a reason for this little one to be be the way he/she is - not that I am hoping that there is a problem but there is probably a reason for it! R

Yeah, I've heard experiences where short cords or tightly wrapped cords cause breeches and other difficult malpresentations. I hope the babe figures things out and turns, but if not, at least you can assure your client that her cesarean was for cause, and not just at the whim of her caregiver. I know that vaginal breech delivery can be safe, but only in the hands of an experienced caregiver. Sadly, most OB and FP docs are no longer experienced in vaginal breech birth.
