Emergen C
I am not familiar with this stuff, So would this stuff be any good for a laboring woman who needs an energy boost?

I have heard that it is. Even heard of doc's allowing it to be put on top of ice chips for mom when no food or drink is allowed. I actually saw some when I was at Wild Oats in KY and thought about picking it up...now that I am back home I can't find it anywhere!

Yep! I drank it during my last labor. That and a honey stick.
Acacia ~ I've seen it at WalMart. Not a good selection but they have it.

OMG! I LOVE Emergen-C. Forget laboring moms (not really. lol) but I have this in my doula bag and don't leave home without it! I've never offered it to a mom (except at a homebirth) b/c they generally can't drink anything and I don't want to be seen as a weirdo or non-compliant if I'm offering her weird stuff. Labor-Aid is good too. But it's an actual drink and likely no one but a midwife would allow it.

Some people can find them at their whole foods. But the Wild Oats here doesn't sell them (at least, I haven't found them there..lol). I get them from http://www.huntershoneyfarm.com/stor...t=Honey%20Stix

I get my Emergen-C at Fred Meyer or Whole Foods and drink it myself during long labors! I also offer it to moms during labor, or have them bring their own so I won't appear rebellious to hospital staff. Although, around here they are seeming to get a bit better at allowing juice type drinks during labor, especially if mom or dad bring it. I get honey sticks at farmers markets. I would eat only honey at my first birth (hospital). My midwife practically force-fed me anything I would accept at my homebirth with #2 since labor had stalled due to my lack of energy.

I've been told in training not to give anything red to Mom's (I get lime) b/c if they vomit and it's red the nurses could start freakin'.

Emergen-C is awesome for mom's and for doula's. I used to push caffeine at births and I'd get all jittery (not a normal side effect of caffeine for me) but coupled with the fatigue, I would feel really crazy. So now I only drink water with Emergen-C in it and it really helps with energy w/o side effects. Honey sticks I carry with me, I got a pack of regular ones at Smith's (regular grocery store)in their tea eisle and from our health food store got a variety of flavored ones, yum!

I also use Emergen-C at births, both for myself and my clients. It's great during second stage to sip between cx for energy and to help with the dry mouth. Clients love the flavor, and the midwives appreciate that it's more energy-giving than water.

I have also found it at GNC stores! (emergen-C this is) I also love to keep it in my bag. I need to get some more because I also love to drink it aroun 4pm when my kids are at their peak and I am starting to drag. Keeps me from being crabby mommy! lol
What are your favorite flavors? I have only tried the raspberry.....

Did you see the suggestion for using it for laboring moms on MDC? ;-) I saw that thread there, and I think it was me who mentioned it. We use it at the birth center to give moms a 'boost' all the time. We also sometimes give a spoonful of honey, or if she'll tolerate it a smoothie with yogurt, protein powder, and frozen berries. Moms also drink a lot of Recharge (often cut 50/50 with water) to keep their blood sugar/energy up. Simple, healthy carbohydrates (ie, not soda or candy) are a laboring mom's greatest alli (besides the doula, that is!)
