Hi my name is Adalia and I am new to this community. I am 16, and working on getting certified with PALS. I have attended 8 births, and have one coming up later this year. I am one of 14 children, and I live out in the country. My sweet little brother Apollo (now 22 months) was born emergency C-section after having a prolapsed cord. He has had problems eating and sleeping and growing since he was born, and had heart surgery for an double aortic arch March 7th. We are hoping and praying that he is on the road to total recovery. I am super excited to have been able to join this community of doulas! I was so happy to find it!

Your only 16??? What is PALS?? All I can think of that standing for isn't a doula related thing.

Hi Adalia! Nice to 'meet' you, how awesome that you are doing this at such a young age. I attended my first birth at 18!

Hi Adalia! I am 16 also and I want to be a midwife with the NewLife International School for Midwifery. I joined this doula sight because I am hoping to volunteer at a doula/midwifery clinic. I am the eldest of 10 kids and I have witnessed 4 homebirths and one hospital birth. Each time makes me more excited to be a midwife.
I am really happy to find out I'm not the only 16 year old girl who wants to do this!

You gals are so lucky to be getting started before having your own children! It's tough to find time later in life, but I'm working at it. I'm the baby of 13 so I heard LOTS of birth stories but didn't get to attend a birth until my sis finally got married and had a baby at 37yrs old! Baby was born this spring. I wish I could have known what I wanted to do in life at 16!

I know it is cool! I'm so excited about this. Do you have a doula that you shadow right now?
