Hello, my name is ava in English or عفرا in Arabic, I am from dubai in the United Arab emirates and i just recently embarked on my journey in becoming a doula, i am eager to learn and expand my knowledge, i have taken a course by Uk nurturing birth with Bushra Finch, which i LOVED! and am currently looking for Births To Finalize my certificate =D
In Addition, it would be wise for me to state on my reasoning and interests in Becoming A doula.
Dubai as most of you know is a very new city and did not exist some 35 years ago as it did today.
My Mother whom was born in Dubai in as most of people back then was born at home, which was the norm. but as Dubai became more modernized and Homebirth became illegal and Birthing choices progressively started to limit.
In most muslim Cultures, pregnant Women are supported by women in their community, so Doula's were almost unheard of in my community because everyone was helping everyone, but Sadly some Women move from cities or areas and its very hard to find the appropriate birth support or are new to the city thus needing all the support they need.
Also, sadly breastfeeding isnt as common as it used to be, back when i was young it was Common for hijabi and niqabi women to breast feed in public, and breastfeeding was encouraged, however it also started regressing as time passes by and I am on a mission to Change that!
