From the cover:

Quote:
It's My Body, My Baby, My Birth is an educational childbirth film that tells the story of seven mothers and their emotional journeys to natural childbirth.
We hear from mothers, partners, midwives and an obstetrician. Each woman's story is unique and powerful. Pain, safety, and fear are all addressed in this honest and compelling film. The beauty of birth is self-evident.

This is a great DVD for doula clients. I think it is a bit long for CBE classes but there are excellent interviews with the CBE and OB in the film as well as a CNM not featured in the film. Any of these would be very easy to play for a CBE series. I especially like the interview with the OB (for a CBE series) as she is obviously a huge advocate for natural childbirth and explains how more hospitals need to support unmedicated births and while being guardians of safety from a distance.

My favorite quote on the DVD is found in the interview with the CNM not featured in the film. I am paraphrasing here but she says "Labor is more work than you can imagine but you are also stronger than you could know."

I do agree with everything the CBE had to say but I'm not in love with how earthy/birthy she comes across. I do think that she will be very appealing to others, though.

All in all, this film takes a very positive look at natural childbirth and stays very clear of any scare tactics. There are some vidoe clips of women coping beautifully with labor but no pushing clips. I (of course) would have loved to see more of the actual birth but I do think this film would be great for couples who just aren't ready to see that yet. It basically combines interviews with all of the above people as well as still photographs a some clips of labor.

I only gave a 4 for quality because it seemed to pause a bit but I watched it on my laptop so that could have had an effect. I wouldn't call it super informative as there isn't much in the way of pro's and con's etc but I would definitely call it inspiring. Even at the full price I'd say it is a fantastic bargain for your video collection.

I think that this is a great DVD to get dialog going w/potential clients and/or clients. It would be a terrific video to share in a group setting such as a birth network or other moms groups.
I was expecting a little more actual birthing footage and was a bit disappointed. However, what they do show is very inspiring and makes one believe that "she could also do this", IMO.
There is a lot of nudity (fully nude pregnant moms) [which is fine w/me] but I might caution those modest or conservative individuals before showing it in mixed company. Just FYI.
I also enjoyed the extra interview options. These are nice and short, great for using in a doula presentation where the entire video would be too long. I think that the actual video is around 30 mins.
I'm very satisfied w/the purchase of this DVD and believe that it will be a great tool in my business. I highly recommend it.

I think this is a great video to help families not feel so alone in their decision to have a natural chidbirth. I hear all the time from my students and clients how people look at them like they have 3 heads when they say they are planning a natural birth. Of course, this isn't surprising when US epidural rates are around 90%.
Anyway, this video will give them peers and inspiration, "They did it, so I can too."

:yes I really enjoyed this DVD. I found it VERY empowering and I believe it could empower future clients as well. I liked hearing the reason and emotion behind the woman's choice to have a natural birth- each person chose for a different reason and they chose what would work best for them- there are options. Most people who hear that I have a midwife assume I had a homebirth-I didn't. I think for first time parents this is highly beneficial in informing them of their choices. In seasoned parents it gives them opportunity to adjust their next births to their vision.

I loved the interviews with Jane Austen, the Midwife, and especially the OB. I think hearing from the OB will be especially useful because most people envision doctors one way- all technology and drugs all the time. I just about fell off my chair when she said (and I'm paraphrasing here) women are lucky to have a doula and a midwife. WOW! I too expected more of the actual birth stuff but that's the birth junkie in me. :lol

All in all, this video is great for informing parents of their choices without drilling it into them and would be great for CBE or part of the prenatal visit. As a PP stated, there is nudity which should be disclosed before watching the video in case anyone has issues with it.

I'm very glad I decided to get the video and I'm happy to add it to my library. :D

The actual viewing time with interviews is 51 minutes 37 seconds. Mine also paused for a split second but nothing to annoy me.
