If you have not yet seen this film, please seek it out! This film is directed by one of the founding members of the conscious birthing movement started in Russia in the 1980's. Remember the Black Sea water births? There's some of this footage, as well as other beautiful births. There's also lots of commentary on different aspects of birthing and babies like Lotus Birth, Circumcision and Exercises for Pregnancy. It was a bit pricey, but after watching the whole thing, I can say it was well worth every penny! Very touching and inspiring. Bring tissues. you can go onto birthintobeing.com or midwiferytoday.com to purchase.

Hello, I reviewed this movie on my site too. I think it is the best birth video I have ever seen! http://birthbuddy.wordpress.com/2007/03/04/video-review-birth-as-we-know-it/

I loved this movie! It is my favorite birth video I've ever seen. I also reviewed this video on my website: http://birthecology.squarespace.com/journal/2007/2/24/birth-as-we-know-it.html

I absolutely LOVE this movie! My husband and I watched it together and found it personally very healing. We are in our mid 50's and have 5 grown daughters between the 2 of us from other marriages and a granddaughter. My daughters were vaginal births with midwives and his were c-sections. He was in the OR for all 3 and in the vaginal birth of his granddaughter. He related so deeply because of the trauma his family experienced in the birth of all 3 daughters and what he feels are the consequences of those births. The 2 youngest daughters were scheduled c-sections and he could tell that they were not ready to be born as they were pulled out of the mom's belly. Lots of grieving and healing! We are hoping to share the movie with our girls.
For me it was the directors narration that brought powerful healing. Hearing that we are all born in an explosion of love, even if our parents are not aware of it was incredibly powerful and healing. WOW!
I have the movie in my lending library for my clients to borrow. The first client who watched it felt that those images of women birthing so beautifully were with her when she birthed her daughter a few days ago. Even though she gave birth in the hospital, it was an amazingly powerful experience. And BTW, my first non traumatic hospital birth as a doula.

I just bought this one, and man - it's absolutely amazing. The most moving video I've ever seen, bar none. This kind of birthing is exactly what we and our planet need. We all need to see this! Highest recommendation!

well i love it- but it may be a bit too "earthy' or new age spiritual for many of my clients- so i showed it to my class last week but i showed them the three last births- without too much of the middle stuff and without the sea birth- i just felt it was too much for my regular childbirth class- although i loved it i just thought it best to do it this way for my couples here in the bible belted south!

I teach doula trainings and private childbirth ed classes, and really like the Educational Version of this film. It has a 25 min and 40 min condensed versions of the film. The 25 min shows the positive aspects of waterbirth, orgasmic birth, etc, without the cesarean or circumcision parts, which is a good version to show in a sensitive group of people.
I am really grateful to have the educational version because it's not too long and shows all the highlights of the video for classes and couples.

i got the educational version and i think the 25 min section is really good for a childbirth ed class. it shows extremely positive images of birth, very different then what women are used to seeing in our culture. it reinforces that women are in charge of their body and their births, it definately would make one question the type of birth experience they would want.
