you all probably know about the books that are available through the Hesperian foundation, Where There is no Doctor, A Book for Midwives and others. Now they're starting to develop apps for mobile devices (smart phones). In remote and empoverished areas, there are often no doctors, but more and more mobile phones are available. I think this is a really good initiative! It touches a subject that is dear to my heart and probably yours as a doula, too. Women's and children's health. Check out the sample video here:
Mobile Apps to Save Lives Where There Is No Doctor | Start Some Good: Igniting Ideas, Investment & Impact.

For information only like reading a book on birth its fine but you get to the scary stage if they were to give information on haw to carry out say External caphalic versions, then i would be very scared as this info in the public domain on APPS would be dangerious. especialy if some one did it then something went wrong the sue risks would be horrific.

but if the apps are only marketed in medical journals aimed at the professionals in their field then that is a different ball game all to gether.

these books and apps are intended mostly for developing countries and areas where there is NO doctor or midwife available. you can find all the contents for free online at hesperian foundation. check it out! the materials are widely used and appreciated among expatriates, too. it's not about sueing anyone. it's not about self-training midwives for the us. it's about SAVING LIVES in areas where maternal and newborn up to toddlers death are just part of everyday's life!! with rates of up to over 1000 deaths per 100000 live births. it's about regions where professional midwifery is simply inexistent because there's not one single midwifery school in the whole country! it's about... oh, well, crazy world...
